The 2018 MYP Science Fair held on January 31st was a tremendous show of excellence! Grade 6, 7, and 8 students were tasked with investigating a topic of interest and completing a research project or inquiry experiment. 101 projects were on display and presented to CISB students, parents, friends, and teachers that visited the event. Topics ranged from colonizing Mars, efficiency of air purifiers, cleanliness and safety of slime, dangers of pesticides, validity of the "5-second rule", to a variety of sustainability initiatives that addressed current world issues. The Science Fair was also a Service as Action activity where students were challenged to connect their work to serving their local and/or global community, and reflect upon other learning outcomes such as collaboration, perseverance, and initiative. Visitors were encouraged to complete feedback surveys for each project they visited which the students will use to deepen their reflection stage of the process. A special congratulations to all the winners, as chosen by teachers, parents, and students, your hard work and enthusiasm was inspiring.
The students and teachers of the Science department would like to thank the CISB community for all their support, the Science Fair could not have been possible without your engagement! We look forward to seeing you all again next year for the 2019 MYP Science Fair!
