Grade 9 to Grade 12

The distinguishing features of Grades 9 and 10 are the common curriculum, scheduling by classes and student promotion decided by teachers/the teaching team. In grades 11 and 12, students will complete the requirements for graduation as outlined below. The grade 11/12 program is based on subject promotion.

Subjects:

English language Arts:
English language arts will focus on the language processes of speaking, listening, reading, viewing, writing and representing with the focus on post secondary readiness. Students receive a minimum of 180 hours during the year.

Mathematics:
The mathematics curriculum continues to focus on development of skills, both computational and applied. The themes of problem solving, technological awareness, communication and connections are emphasized throughout the high school years.

Science:
Science in grade 10 is considered to be the foundation for the more rigorous study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in grade 11 and 12. The emphasis on Mathematics and Science in the grade 11/12 program requires that students pass the science section of their program in both grade 9 and 10. There is not enough time during the grade 11 and 12 years to take all sciences. Biology 11 may be offered in grade 10.

Social Studies: The Social Studies curriculum is designed to encourage students to examine issues, to respond critically and creatively and to make informed decisions as citizens of an increasingly-interdependent world.

The particular technologies that students will be using at CIS will depend on the technologies that are chosen as the focus for this school.

Family Studies:
Family Studies is the study of interpersonal relationships within the family at Students with their individual planning. It consists of activities that help students plan, monitor, and manage their own learning as well as their personal and career developments.

Grade 11 and 12:

To be offered in August 2007 and August 2008.
Students are required to attempt a total of 16 credits during grade 11 and grade 12.
They are required to pass 14 of these courses in order to graduate.

During these two years, they must pass core courses in English, Math, History and Language. Capable students should study Chemistry, Physics and Biology. There will be a number of optional courses offered during the grade 11 and grade 12 years, including Calculus and other advanced math courses.
