While the Language of Instruction in the Canadian International School of Beijing (CISB) is English, it is clearly recognized that a student’s native language, or mother tongue, is important to self-esteem, learning culture and community. Students at CISB should feel that their native culture and language are validated and recognized as an important part of the international community. The host country language, Mandarin, will also hold a place of value at CISB.

Canadian International School of Beijing Academic Honesty Policy
Academic honesty is central to the IB learner profile. Academic pursuits can be extremely challenging, but as with all challenges, accomplishing your goal often yields rewards far greater than the effort put into the work. The creation of authentic work is often an arduous task, but the skills learned in doing so – problem solving, articulating arguments, synthesizing information, rigorous academic research, etc. – will be invaluable as you pursue a university degree and/or a career.

CISB expects that all IB students demonstrate academic integrity. This policy will thus provide the expectations of both students and teachers in the pursuit of academic honesty. Further details can be found in the IBO publication “Academic honesty: guidance for schools” (IBO, 2007).
Canadian International School of Beijing Assessment Policy
The Canadian International School of Beijing believes that assessment is a shared responsibility between teachers, students and parents that allow students to collect their work, reflect on their strengths and plan for their own improvement. Assessments are used for evaluating, recording and reporting student progress, their primary function is to focus instruction and enhance learning. We guide our students through the essential elements of learning: the understanding of concepts, the acquisition of knowledge, the mastery of skills, the development of attitudes and the decision to take responsible action. We do this to inspire our students to participate responsibly, successfully and with integrity in the local and global community.
